Description
Oregano Wild Marjoram (Origanum vulgare), commonly known as Oregano, is a hardy, aromatic perennial herb prized for both its culinary richness and ornamental beauty. Native to Europe and the Mediterranean, it performs exceptionally well in sunny, dry South African regions such as the Western Cape, Karoo, and Free State. This compact herb forms a dense, bushy mound of oval, dark green leaves with pink-purple flowers that appear in summer.
Growing up to 30-60 cm tall, it is a magnet for bees and beneficial insects, while also serving as a flavour-packed kitchen staple. Its pungent, peppery flavour is stronger when dried, making it a pantry essential in Mediterranean and Mexican cuisine.
